Brandon Prust, one of the promising players of New York Rangers, is kept on a one match suspension post the elbow act over defense man Anton Volchenkov of the New Jersey Devils. In this particular game, the New York Rangers had a perfect 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils. It was Game 3 for the Eastern Conference and the finals went ahead in full swing on Saturday. Brandon Prust is facing first of the kind ban since he started off. He is leading the league in 20 fighting majors and is one of the best players.

Brandon Prust conveyed to NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan over a telephone call that he did not intent to cause any harm or hurt to the Russian player, Anton Volchenkov in any way. He claimed that it was just circumstantial and happened because of loss of balance on the part of the players. Anton Volchenkov was not injured because of the act of Brandon Prust and no penalty was imposed on the game. The one game suspension was not considered to be a severe form of punishment because defense man Anton Volchenkov was not hurt by it and the past record of the player Brandon Prust is clean of any such act of aggression.

NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan, however, felt that it was an act of recklessness and the video showed that Prust tried to hurt Volchenkov with his elbow. Prust has only about two elbow penalties in his name so far throughout the 301 games he had played. Fellow team mates and coach of Brandon Prust came to his defense saying that Prust has remained an honest player all throughout his career. Marc Staal is the alternate captain to lead the series till the return of Prust. New York leads with 2-1 in the game 4 at New Jersey.
