It is exactly 50 years since the Colt .45s held its first game. This was at a makeshift Colt Stadium in April 1962 where they played the Cubs and emerged winners with a score of 11-2. At Minute Maid this Tuesday the commemoration was done in style. The team has since changed its name to Astros with the Colt Stadium being their base and changing its name to Astrodome.
This commemorative game was against the Braves and several players from the original team at inauguration in 1962 threw ceremonial first pitches. The inaugural team was so close knight that they became friends over the years and some of those who came from other states never left.
The team’s retired numbers players totaling nine were honored with a plaque o the wall with the team getting the new Astros Walk of Fame. The event was so emotional to the old players who made the team famous 50years ago. They wore replicas of the original uniform complete with a revolver below the team’s name, the heavy woolen clothing made Minute Maid look more like Colt Stadium on 10th April 1962.
They plan to wear different outfits throughout the season to commemorate the designs they have passed through in the years. In spite of these ceremonies, the team will strive to do its best and perform well in the season.
A lot has changed since the inaugural game, the team has changed and become even better over the years, the stadiums have been improved and expanded to accommodate more spectators among other improvements.
